Caritas Europa reacts to the EU Commission Green Paper on the Role of Civil Society in Drugs Policy in the EU
![]() |
Brussels, 10 June 2006 - Caritas Europa welcomes the initiative of the European Commission to launch an open and transparent debate on ways of involving civil society actors that are most directly confronted with the reality of drug-addiction in the process of shaping an EU-level policy. The inclusion of civil society from the very start of this process will contribute significantly to enhance the legitimacy of EU initiatives in this field. |
Caritas Europa takes great interest in this Green Paper, since its member organisations work every day with drug-addiction related issues – in the form of health recovery, social reintegration and assistance to the families – and HIV/Aids. Caritas Europa is, therefore, convinced that it has very much to contribute in the shaping of the EU’s future action on drugs.
Caritas Europa looks forward to getting involved in such a structured dialogue and recommends the adoption of clear and transparent rules for its implementation.
