Caritas takes action against human trafficking 

Brussels, 18 October 2007. On the occasion of the 1st EU-wide Anti-trafficking Day Caritas Europa, a network of 48 member organisations in 44 countries, firmly renews its commitment to combat human trafficking and related phenomena including forced labour, sexual exploitation, slavery, removal of organs.  

To combat human trafficking, Caritas Europa coordinates COATNET (Christian Organisations Against Trafficking). COATNET is a worldwide network (41 members comprised of Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox organisations and international networks) which is active in raising public awareness, protecting the vulnerable, assisting and accompanying victims, fostering international cooperation and advocacy. 

During their annual meeting in Beirut (10-11 October, 2007) the members of COATNET made the following recommendations.


Also, several initiatives have been reported for the Anti-Trafficking Day:

Secours-Catholique-Caritas France and French NGO group

Caritas Luxembourg and Luxembourgish NGO group

Cordaid-Caritas Netherlands and Dutch NGO group

Caritas Bulgaria and member organisation Caritas Ruse - leaflet and poster
