Brussels, 01 July 2009 - Caritas Czech Republic and Caritas Europa secretariat actively contributed to the conference on the effectiveness of civil society organisations (CSO) in development, held in Prague on 23-24 June as an official accompanying event of the Czech EU Presidency. As a member of the global facilitation group steering the work of the global forum on CSO Development Effectiveness (Open Forum), Caritas Europa expressed the Caritas Confederation’s support to this forum and its acknowledgement of the work of the European confederation of development NGOs (CONCORD) in this area. During the event Caritas Czech Republic presented two case studies that provided an evidence-based analysis of the role and effectiveness of CSO. The event was co-organised by the Czech Forum for Development and Co-operation (FoRS), the Czech platform of development NGOs, and the European confederation of development NGOs (CONCORD). It gathered more than 150 representatives of various sectors of the civil society as well as representatives of donors and the Czech government.
The conference wrapped-up with the adoption of a statement highlighting their commitment to further explore different aspects of CSO Development Effectiveness.
