Caritas Europa will be present at the World Social Forum 2007

Caritas Europa is registered as an organisation to be consulted on WSF matters and will participate at the upcoming World Social Forum 2007. The event will take place 20-25 January 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Caritas Europa considers the World Social Forum (WSF) to be a permanent world process, gathering social movements, networks, NGOs and other civil society organisations opposed to neo-liberalism and a world dominated by capital or by any form of imperialism together in an open meeting place.

Secours Catholique-Caritas France will act as the official ‘Caritas Europa Focal Point on WSF/ESF matters’, avoiding the need for Caritas Europa to ‘duplicate’ in its working structures or staff structures capacity and expertise that is already available in Secours Catholique-Caritas France and that can be easily made available through this focal point to the wider Caritas Europa network.

Other Caritas Europa member organisations participating at the event will be CAFOD-Caritas England & Wales, Cordaid-Caritas Netherlands, Trocaire-Caritas Ireland, Caritas Italiana, Caritas Spain, Caritas Switzerland and Catholic Relief Services (CRS)-Caritas USA.

Caritas Europa member organisations, together with members of the ecumenical platform, will actively participate at several events on topics such as, among others, the debt cancellation, peace building and reconciliation, HIV & AIDS and the environment and natural resources

On behalf of Caritas Europa, Secours Catholique-Caritas France will organise and animate a number of seminars and workshops around the following themes:

  • The role of faith based NGO’s in peace

  • Combating trafficking in human beings

  • Management of natural resources

  • Civil participation: Mobilisation of civil society for participation in political dialogue

Also, Caritas Europa will also organise an event on the important and complex thematic area of the link between migration and development.
