Caritas delegation met with MEP Nathalie Griesbeck on Migration and Development

Brussels, 24 February 2010 - A delegation composed of Mr. Michel Roy (Secours Catholique/Caritas France) and Ms. Blandine Bouniol (Caritas Europa) met with MEP Griesbeck, member of the Justice and Liberties Committee of the European Parliament,  to discuss EU migration and development policies.

During the meeting, which took place on 24 February in the European Parliament, Ms Griesbeck was briefed on Caritas’ three main concerns regarding EU policies on migration and development:

  • Include human rights and, notably, migrants’ rights in the heart of EU migration and development policies

  • EU development aid must remain free from any attempt to be politicised

  • Enhance development policies’ coherence through appropriated institutional mechanisms

MEP Griesbeck showed a sincere interest in the points regarding the integration of human rights in EU development policy and the utterly need of coherence between policies to effectively reach the populations in need.
