Caritas Europa Annual Meeting on Communications and Fundraising held in Brussels

Brussels, 20 April 2009
Caritas Europa held its Annual Meeting on Communications and Fundraising in Brussels on 2-3 April 2009. The event was organised and hosted by Caritas Europa.

Since its first edition in 2004, the popularity of this event has been steadily growing. The gathering offers an excellent opportunity to persons  responsible for media and fundraising across the Caritas Europa network to come together and interact with each other.

Among others, this year's meeting included a workshop on "The 21st Century Catholic Donor" (designed and delivered by Holly Ball, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, CAFOD), a special session on "NGO-Corporate Relations", and a contribution by fundraising expert Stephen Pidgeon on "Great Stewardship in Action".

The workshop delivered by Holly Ball presented the interesting findings of recent quantitative/qualitative research on the profile of the contemporary Catholic Donor and provided the basis for a fruitful discussion on implications for successful fundraising strategies and targeted communication with (potential) donors.

Contributions in the following session highlighted different aspects related to "NGO-Corporate Relations" such as a recent evaluation published by Secours Catholique, examples of successes and pitfalls presented by a CORDAID representative, and the Microsoft experience in running Community Affairs programmes.

Stephen Pidgeon looked at "Stewardship" as the very best way to create relationship with supporters. According to the guest speaker good stewardship builds lifetime value and leads to legacies. It is also deeply satisfying for fundraisers as it is at the heart of everything a fundraiser tries to do.

In line with previous Annual Meetings where initial ideas were collected, Caritas Europa has been pursuing preparation for a Caritas campaign on the occasion of the EY 2010. Elements of this campaign were presented to participants during a joint session with attendees of the briefing seminar for contact persons for the EY 2010.

The next edition of the Annual Meeting on Communications and Fundraising will be held in Vienna (Austria).
